Summer is an important time for students to keep reading and improve their language skills. Here are a few ideas to keep reading alive.
Visit Summer 2017- Keep Reading Alive - http://www.hcpss.org/news-posts/2017/06/summer-2017-keep-reading-alive/
to download HCPSS grade level summer reading lists and to sign up online for the summer reading program at the Howard County Library.
The Howard County Library System is also sponsoring a design a library card contest through July 15th. Have your child show his/her love of reading and books by entering the contest. More details and the entry form is available at any library branch or at http://hclibrary.org/hcls-library-card-design-contest/
For students in grades 1-6, the Barnes and Noble book stores are offering a free book when students read 8 books by September 5, 2017. There is a special journal to download with full details - https://dispatch.barnesandnoble.com/content/dam/ccr/pdf/2017/summer-reading/summerreading_tearpad_eng.pdf?x=y
Doing a lot of traveling, yet want to keep your child reading? Check out online stories and books.

Storyline Online - http://www.storylineonline.net/ - streams imaginatively produced videos featuring celebrated actors reading children’s books.
Additionally, all of HSES’ online databases are available over the summer to satisfy curious wonderings. Use MackinVIA - https://www.mackinvia.com/ - on the login screen it will start you at the ARL - Applications and Research Lab, just click EXIT and will will ask you for your school and your child’s school computer login username and password to visit World Book Online Reference Center, PebbleGo, and several more databases that would help to satisfy those “I wonder” questions.
Have a great summer! Mrs. Sczepanski and Mrs. Lee
